In researching, I understand that v-slot has a chamfered edge so it better allows for a wheel or guide to track in it for motion components. However, I'm looking to build a laser cutter - and the options to use all v-slot for the frame and gantry seems to be more cost effective than sourcing traditional t-slot from grainger, misumi, or another distributor. Are there any drawbacks to using the v-slot for all the structural framing components? Will standard t-nuts and connectors all still work as expected? Would love to just buy all v-slot from the store, especially if that saves money over other major distributors that charge and arm and leg for shipping. Thanks for the help!
No drawbacks. V-slot is backwards compatible with T-Slot and most 20-series T-Slot accesories works just fine with V-Slot too. Check the BUILDS tab above - you'll see frames made of V-Slot on almost all the builds - been known to be cheaper for a while (;
Absolutely no drawbacks - many thousands of machines (including cnc routers which experience higher forces than a laser would) built entirely with V-slot. Alex.
