About 10 years ago, I was given a Phoenix CNC router built into a cabinet intended for schools. I replaced the electronics with CNC xPRO V3 controller and three DM860T stepper drivers. The machine has three Nema 34 motors and 48VDC power supply. This week, the machine was giving me problems. At first, I thought that the desktop computer was giving me problems but I tried a notebook computer and found out that the machine was giving me problems. When I jog the X-Axis about 400mm both ways, I thought the X-Axis gantry hit something but I couldn't find anything that could cause the gantry to stop with a noise. I may need a new CNC controller compatible with GRBL. If so, which one?
slow down the max feed rate in the GRBL settings, and slow down the acceleration rate. if there is dirt anywhere it can stop the axis when moving fast, moving fast is when the stepper motors has the least power. also feel the wheels for any rough spots. one of my wheels had some metal swarf stuck in it and I could hear it bumping along the Y axis, not good for surface finish
I used Blaster Dry Lube with Teflon on ball screws and linear bearings. I think I got the machine working now.
