I'm getting ready to build a 18" X 36" laser and I see most of the larger lasers coming from China drive reduction on the X and Y axis. In some photos I see they also use nema 23's instead of 17's. My guess is that with larger armatures in the 23's and the reduction, they are more precise. But with reduction, I would have to think that they loose half of their speed. I need to see if this is worth the effort while I'm still in the design phase. Thanks Rodney
The reduction is a necessity for servo tuning stability. If you're using steppers, you don't need it.
