    Fred, from what I am understanding, you will start a firmware update and replace the USB drive with the updated firmware named the same after it starts the "download".

    No need for that as in the package there will be a correct signature. You can just start the update process and it will go as it should.

    even better :)

    Will it update even if the current version is the same or do we need to do a downgrade first?

    This is really exciting news! I'm not unhappy that this thread was "hijacked" as I doubt anyone would exchange a simple firmware update for a dismantling of the printer! I'm not subscribed to any other threads, and am hoping that a new topic creation would have a reference here for easy locating. There are some darn innovative people out here in the 'net!

    I would like to be rid of the cube software, any suggestions on how to do that?

    I haven't followed up on it but one of the reasons I bought a Windows 10 computer was so I could check out the 3DBuilder SDK.
    Saw it on YouTube at some point and wanted to learn more. The idea is that you could characterize your printer through Windows 10 and send your model through 3DBuilder.

    Imagine if there could be a profile for Simplify3D to work with the Cube3 after the cartridge hack is completed! Unfortunately, one aspect that is likely to be challenging with the Cube3 is the fragility of the "bowden tube" and the likely-limited-lifespan of the nozzle. How many kilograms/kilometers of filament can the nozzle take before it's worn out to twice the original diameter, or even a fraction of that, affecting the print quality?

    So far so good, Fred. I looked in the nozzle and you'd surprised at how well made it is.
    Add that to the very mild extrude rate, these tips should enjoy a long life...
    ...as long as a few other build qualities are managed.
    Cleaning them out is another matter also.

    There are materials with abrasives. These will chew up tips. I'm referring to metals and carbon fiber.

    @Naldarn

    But simplify3d should work with the bfb file output. It is working for the Cubepro for me. You just have to encode the files with CodeX.
    The start and end scripts have to be midified but this was already done for the Cubepro and CubeX.
    I will post a config file when I do have the time after all this.
    I am confident that simplify3d will work with the cube3.

    @Geezer70

    Did my Config file for simplify3d work out for you on the Cube3? Did you have time to test it?

    WHA, WHA, what? I was dozing off basking in the sunlight of eychei's hack. Will look into this and
    post a detailed How-To here or on thingiverse.

    BTW, just found out what we are doing is perfectly LEGAL in the US.

    It’s Finally Legal To Hack Your Own Devices (Even Your Car)

    Absolutely S3D works with the Cube3. Remember the CubePro and the Cube3 are the same MOBO.
    use the built-in FFF for CubePro and begin by modifing the build area to 152x152x152, this is important!
    If you don't, you crash your Z plate into the nozzle. Look on Kisslicer Forum, I wrote up a short "how to".
    CodeX works just fine for decoding and encoding 3DS files. That's what I was eluding to in my post "3D can be simplified".
    There is gold in these two forums. Do some digging and you'll find all you're answers. That's what we did.

    "Give a man a fish and he will not be hungry for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will not be hungry for life.".
    Oh, well....

    One of the great finds (to eychei, et al a big thanks! IMHO, I think this has as much importance with regard to
    "paper training this little puppy" as the cartridge hack. This is not intended to demean eychei's hack, he worked
    on both. I'm just twice as thankful!) was decoding the config XML files for both the CubePro and Cube3.
    The respective files contain every parameter which can be tweaked to fine tune the printer.

    Open to rebuttal...:banghead::banghead:..:thumbsup:

    No you are not wrong. Geezer70 is a wise man, he doesn't want to give out to much so we all can learn on how to do it. Just pushing us into the right direction.

    Can you test if a new cartridge trips up the patches?
    A 100% cartridge is treated differently in the code.

    I don't mind it writing to a new cartridge, but just to make sure it doesn't error out when it finds a new cartridge.

    @Tom Dirriwachter,

    A 100% cartridge is treated differently in the code.

    Good idea Tom, I'll check it out
