So i just did my first longer print did good. Wanted to see if you guys have any input. Looks like one thing 9 need to adjust is my retraction. I think this is whats cause the boogers when it moves to a new area. The other thing im seeing is the gaps on the sides. I think this was due to not having a spool holder. Any other input would be greatly appreciated

Yes your on the right track, if the filament binds it will cause under extrusion

So after thinking about what could be not allowing the filament to flow freely i raised my z axis up and extruded some. It curls up right away and gets stuck on the extruder. Im guessing this means i have a slight clog from the factor. Any idea whats the best way to unclog. Also you guys should check out matter control its a slicer that you can choose between 3 different engines(slic3r cura and matter control). It also works as an interface for your printer like pronterface. I really like the layout of it so far

What slicing program are you using?

looks to me as if you have some under extrusion problems, it seems as if you may be going too fast (print speed) or your extruder is not extruding enough filament.

Depending on which slicing engine you use, check to see if there is a spot to put your filament diameter, and you need to measure your filament diameter and enter this into the slicing app, most filaments are NOT the same size as they say it is, my 1.75 is actually only 1.62mm, and this will make a difference.

I had a lot of issues using skeinforge and slicer3, which all went away when I used Cura, so you may also want to try a different slicer.

Man you are totally right my prints look great with cura. i now have none of the problems i did before. Only one i still have is lets say i do the test cube with 30% infill top layer looks like crap. Shouls i change the top and bottom layer to a slower speed to help fill in the gaps better, or is it because i have no fan blowing on the pla

    Robert,

I'm working on building two of these with parts you printed and following your BOM. I have some corrections you could make on the BOM.

    1. After assembling a frame I found that the Z-Axis rods and Acme Threaded Rods you specify as 254 mm are several inches too short. The correct size is 320mm.

    2. Additionally, the BOM is for a 3/8" only threaded rod base. Turned out that I have the printed parts requiring 3/8" and 8mm threaded rod base. This really could use a note attached to this.

Finally, would you happen to have that list of all the required screws for this build? There is a lot of different M3 hardware going on here!

    Thank you,
    -Matt

I've just order the printed bits from Robert and I'm not sure if this has been done before but I've gone through the BOM and listed prices and places to possibly buy parts from. Prices are in Australian dollars (excludes shipping) and where possible I'm trying to buy from places local (even if via ebay). Feel free to check it out and leave a comment:

currently working on some upgrades (yes I've not even finished my first build yet but have some time spare on my transit to/from work). Am looking at beefing the Z-Axis mounts up a little so the tab on the end (beyond the hole for the linear rod) isn't compromised/so fragile. Thought I'd share.

Thanks Robert. I'll be able to print replacement parts now and get out of the ghetto solution I made. lol.

@Robert Hummel - I'm about to build two more machines and save pulling my current one apart, did you happen to ever get around to creating a screws list?
