    Hey folks!
So I got myself a spindle, and a vfd, yuhuu.
Now the VFD settings should be fine, and have been confirmed by the sellers who set it up for me.

But I get a very erratic behaviour:
    - If I plug myself in the 0-10V I get no reaction from the spindle, other than the frequency to F124 indicated on the VFD
    - If I plug myself into the PWM, same.
    - If I plug myself into the relay 1, I get a small rotation from the spindle when I stop it (m5)
    - If I then go to PMW, the spindle works, at a constant speed of F124 (should work between 300 and 400Hz, as setup in the VFD).

I start to wonder if the problem doesn't come from the Blackbox, after checking some other threads. My $31 is good at 0m $30 at 24000. My GRBL setup is attached. Ah and I did a reset of the EEPROM as I saw suggested in another similar thread, with no success.

Chatgpt is as lost as I am :)

    Any clues?

    Ok so big update already!
I now plugged the Relay into the M1/DCM and the AVI/ACM into the 0-10V and I managed to get the spindle working at F400!
only problem remaining is that regardless the speed I ask (M3 S12000 or M3 D24000) I always get F400, so I still need to figure how to regulate this.

Plugging a 0-10v device into a 3.3v PWM could have damaged your controller. Random wiring is extremely reckless. Follow documentation (and logic common sense)

File empty. Validate the info you provide so we can assist.

In essence though check the 0-10v output using instructions in BlackBox Docs docs:blackbox-x32:connect-vfd [OpenBuilds Documentation]

If it hasn't been damaged by the experimental wiring, you should get a 0-10v output based on 0-24000 rpm with correct Grbl Settings. Use the Tool On menu in CONTROL to test not manual commands.

If that works, issue is on VFD settings

Did you remember to load a machine profile afterwards?

Yeah, I am figuring I did a lot of reckless things these days :/
I honestly went through the blackbox docs, saw this "
If you want to use this feature to control Spindle RPM (on supported spindles), please read Grbl v1.1 Configuration"
went there, configured $30 and $31, but yeah I get a fixed F400 out of the blackbox.
    Thanks for answering so fast!

Ah and yes I uploaded my profile after the reset. And yes, also I'm using the tool command to test. Still I get my constant 10v/f400 out.

After a firmware update, I get no signal out of the blackbox anymore :(

Is there a way to check if the blackbox is damaged?? Honestly I'm really lost now!

I don't see that I suggested a Fw update was the issue, so more random recklessness. Instead of the advice that was offered being followed step by step.

Lets take a breather and try again after a break.

Damage is a possibility (hooking up wires randomly will do that). Firmware update itself unrelated, though you possibly used the wrong dropdown choices and wiped settings (again like the eeprom reset above, not related, not needed, and again without settings is worse off - reload good settings from the Select Machine profile dropdown menus in Grbl Settings )

I see, can I just check somehow if I messed up the controller then? Because I really think I loaded the right GRBL again, selected the machine..
I have the same wire setup as before: Relay into the M1/DCM and the AVI/ACM into the 0-10V
Grbl is the one sent earlier, and when I use the tool on I just hear a click on the blackbox but no frequency shows on the VFD, and the spindle remains still.

I did again a direct manual testing of the spindle, from the VFD and it worked fine.

Instructions already provided in my first reply (docs shows how to measure with MULTIMETER)

    $33=5000.0 ; Spindle PWM frequency

    Try 1000

Yep so I checked with a working multimeter, and I get nothing out of the 0-10V anymore.

Yes, and after sending the Tool command. I hear a click when I send the m3 and when I send the m5 (using the tool, not direct command)
I can still operate the axis though, so all is not lost!

    M3/5 does the relay
    M3Sxxxx does PWM/0-10v

    Which is why i recommended

Let the buttons do it before you forget half the command

Ok then I expressed myself poorly. I use the command button tool to send the command, not the text. But thanks for the info, so what do you think?

    Hellooooo :)
So I wanted to get back to work (it's been 4 days already with the spindle vfd controller drama), using the spindle in manual, controlled by the vfd, and run my job with the openbuilds control, but I can't home. I can move the spindle with the commands, probe it, but I can't home (the button is greyed out and doesn't respond)
I tried to home it using the G28 command, didn't work.

    help?

EDIT: as a work around I did a "manual homing" (not sure about the correct description of what I did so I'll use the command names even if I used the buttons on the interface do to so): G28.1 on what I estimated would be close enough to the "real" zero, then probe, then go go go. As a work around also, I use the spindle manually for now, adjusting speed on the VFD directly so I could go back to work until we find out what's going on and what to do about the Blackbox, if it is indeed half burned.

this is not a 3D printer, G28 is not in any way associated with home on a router running GRBL firmware. G28 is a 'predefined position', just like G30 G Codes

In the GRBL settings is a 'homing on/off', maybe you turned it off, that would cause the home button to be grey.

hey David, thanks for coming in! Very appreciated :)
Somehow the $22 went so zero indeed, very strange! Do you have any input on the main problem I'm facing: no voltage out of 0-10V on the blackbox?
I previously had the Relay into the M1/DCM and the AVI/ACM into the 0-10V and I managed to get the spindle working at F400! But now nothing :(
How can I see if my "experimental wiring" damaged the blackbox?
I attach my current GRBL file.
