I am trying to set up my Ball screw CNC with the OB electronic package. I have been unable to get the XYZ probe to work. When using Open Build Control on my laptop I get an error messages as shown below. When I tried to use it on the Interface, it said file missing. I have checked the wiring x3 and carefully position the bit above the probe.

Have homed your machine successfully? Are any of the limit switches activated? How far away were you from the probe when you started the probing sequence? Sometimes if you are too far away, you will get an error. Is the probe wiring correct? Are there any shorts/lose wires?

That message means you skipped at least one, possibly more, of the setup steps of the Interface Documentation (https://docs.openbuilds.com/interface)

Perhaps you also skipped the Machine Profile step? (CONTROL > GRBL Settings tab > Select machine from the list > Save and reset when prompted). Default profiles sets up things like Probe and Endstop inputs etc.

Or... You have a short circuit that grounds out the probe via the spindle body. AC Mains Earth to DC GND short somewhere. AC and DC should be seperate domains

I do not think that I have homed the machine properly. Are there instructions on how to do that. I have tried to figure out what the GRBL settings should be without success.

Pics of the machine, detailed descriptions of drive components (ballscrew pitch, etc), details of limits and where you have them installed etc

The more thorough you tell us what you have the closer we can get you with settings

I have followed the interface setup instructions line by line. It indicates that the firmware is up to date and that it is connected to my Wifi. My machine is not one of the ones listed in the GRBL settings, so I used custom. I also tried Lead Screw 1010, my machine is a 750x750 Ballscrew by SPAM and that di not seem any better.. I do not think there are any crossed wires or short circuits

Use a computer for initial setup - way easier. Then use the Troubleshooting tab in CONTROL to properly test your Probe. If a short exists, thats where you'll see the symptoms

The machine is a Ultimate Bee, 750x750, x cutting = 523, y 512, z 180. I have the OB electronic set up with hi torque motors and OB limit switches. The limit switches are upper Z, left X and front Y. Image 11-16-23 at 11.51 AM.jpeg

OK so 1204 ballscrew = 4mm pitch. Set steps per mm to around 100 to start off with a BlackBox X32 and standard 1.8deg motors
Ballscrews are heavy! So turn down Acceleration and Max rate quite a lot: Grbl v1.1 Configuration and Grbl v1.1 Configuration - these will require tuning, so spend some time on it.

For our limit switches set $5=7 in Grbl Settings
For our probe set $6=1 in Grbl Settings
Also set $10=511 for CONTROL to work correctly, particularly the Troubleshooting tab status displays relies on some report flags we set there with $10=511

Make sure $4=0 (Disabled) for the X32 to run the motors at all.
Also check that $1=255 (Keeps motors enabled)

Those switch positions should be $23=3 - but make sure machine jogs correct directions first.

I have followed your instructions and I made sure that the GRBL setting are correct. I also worked on the limit switches so that the machine will home properly. Now when I start the probe the z motion goes up instead of down. Is there a setting that is wrong?

When you jog the Z axis, does it go in the direction you want it to? Is there a chance you confused "probing" with "homing?" The Z should go up with homing.

jog X+ must move the tool right
jog Y+ must move the tool away
jog Z+ must move the tool up
got those correct before setting up homing directions

I have set my machine using size and calbribration modified Lead 1010 settings.
The X,Y, and Z go in the proper direction. This required $3 to reverse Y. I have limit switches on the front, left and at the upper limit of Z. With $23 Y set to min, X set to min and Z set to max, the machine homes to the front left corner and the z axis is at its upper limit. After I position the machine above the XYZ plus probe as shown and connect the magnet to the collet and confirm the position and probe nothing happens. Attached are the GRBL settings.
