    Hi,

I have bought the Open builds Gantry plate, Motor mount and Idler plate to fit onto a piece of 2080 v-slot extrusion, however I can't build it because the belt slots are in the wrong place ie. if I used the slots on the gantry plate then the belt would be on the thicker part of the extrusion and not sat in the slot, am I missing something here , is there another part I need ?

    Thanks
    Stuart

    Hi,

I think I need to mount the motor and pulley on top and get some belt attachment screws like the ones in this pic, only it is not a good picture, are they shoulder bolts ?

    thanks
    Stuart

You could potentially eliminate the spacer blocks and mount the posts on the top side of the plate. It all comes down to what you're mounting to the plate. There are a lot of ways to make this work.

Download the Sketchup file here for more suggestions. The 5th one from the left may be useful. Another useful Sketchup file can be found here. You may need to add extra washers at the wheels where the belts are set flat to the V-slot to create sufficient clearance to loop in the belt.

    Hi all,

I have viewed the sketchup diagram and I think they are some sort of shoulder bolts that the belt fastens on to, my question is what are they called so that i can try and buy some ?

    Thanks
    Stuart

Regular alu spacer over the screw:
From Aluminum Spacers (10 Pack) and from Low Profile Screws M5 (10 Pack) with what looks like a Tee nut on the end: Tee Nuts - M5 (10 Pack)
You don't have to follow any of that exactly though, the OpenBuilds ecosystem is like lego, anything can go with anything, just sit down and play with it to get it all to fit how you wanted it. Within constraints of course. And if you really can't, nothing wrong with drilling an extra hole, or modifying a plate for example. Its like lego or meccano, a "modular build system". No right or wrong way, just fit stuff together

It's free unless you want the fancy commercial version. Most of us use the older downloadable version rather than the current online app.
Actually that's just a spacer with an M5 screw holding it to the plate. Bit of a weak detail to be honest as the loop can easily slip off the post. Adding a washer between the top of the spacer and the screw head is much more secure.

Edit: I see Peter types faster than me.

"Sketchup Make 2017", still available from Downloading older versions | SketchUp Help

Many other CADs can import Sketchup models too: Sketchup, Designspark, and several others.

If you are going with the assembly as in the picture, you also need Spacer Block between the Wheels and the plate, to lift the plate up, to have space for that belt bolts underneath
