I'm very new to CNC and will be purchasing the 1515. I would like to know what the bare minimum of the add-ons (4 High Torque NEMA 23 Stepper Motors, BlackBox Motion Control System, DeWALT DWP611 Router 120V, etc...) I should purchase and any options I should strongly consider. Thank you in advance. ~ Shawn
You will want to add the stock power supply to the list. As for the DWP611 those are a bit hard to come by right now. You may need to go with the Makita RT0701C instead which is a fully viable alternative if you can’t get your hands on the Dewalt. (Some users actually prefer the Makita)
Xtension Limits are a must so you can home properly (Many post processors rely on proper machine coordinates) Niceties include the OpenBuilds XYZ Probe Plus and OpenBuilds Interface as well as the Dust Shoe. Enclosures and Tables series are nice add ons too
I would push the shoe up to a necessity if you are using the trim routers as they blow air down into the cutting area, and it will be tremendously messy (and toxic to breath). It's one of the reasons I like the AMB I got, just left a pile of shavings and dust on the piece being worked on (okay so that could end up being a fire hazard possibly). XYZ Probe.. I would put in the middle.. somewhere between nice to have and necessary.. it definitely helps saving wasted materials from possible mistakes when manually setting the zeros.
3 is the minimum, you can add 6 if you like extra peace of mind. (2 per axis, one one each end of travel)
Yes see, docs:blackbox:jumper-slaveaxis [OpenBuilds Documentation] but its just a hard to setup feature. Building machines square is better. Only exception maybe dual belt machines like the old Ox etc
No worse than trying to setup autosquaring using the TMC chips and switchless limit setup... I know a few people who managed to get it to work, but it is a real pain (on the 6 pack discord channel)
