I’m squaring up my machine and I’m doing the 30/60/90 triangle method. While jogging the machine, I notice that when I type in 500mm on my X-axis, it’s showing a 1/2mm short. Same for my Y-axis. Should this be something I should be worried about? And if so, how can I adjust it?
For anyone who reads this (who may or may not know), i used the built in wizards for calibrating each axis. Awesome design. However when I used the preset movement (100mm increment) for my move, then set it perfect, I then tried a longer axis move (700mm) and it was showing 703mm. So after a frustrating evening of thought, I decided to change the presets and calibrate to 700mm on each axis instead of 100mm. This provided perfect results. The longer the measurement the better for the calibration it seems. Might be obvious for some but for any beginner like myself out there, figured I’d post about it and hopefully save someone out there some frustration.
Quite correct, the longer the better so long as the yardstick is also correct (-: The resource on calibration does point this out, but we must keep in mind that starting with a short movement is much safer than a long movement.
