    Really appreciate your support! Second time to offer me to send over some parts :)
    I got the screws out and bought some m3 bolts and some loctite.
    Put some loctite and the screws in...and unfortunately tightened them so much that they ripped apart.
    Guess I won't get them out easy anymore, but at least they should be tight enough now.
    Gonna let it try now for at least 12 hours just to make sure

    Haha. Got to admit that I'm not a "mechanic" at all. Typical IT guy.... 1's and 0's. I chose the 1 (full power).
    I did an "air-run" and so far it looked alright. Wonder what it will look like tomorrow for a real carve

    Just for your information ;)
    It seems to be running again. Not really sure if it was the cables, the eccentric spacers or the pulley screws.
    But I think it was actually the pulley screws.
    Did a cut in oak with 1300 mm / min with with v-bit and then with a 1/8 downcut bit.
    Same project that failed several times before.

    Just picked up a ox used
    It has only had a couple of hours use, the guy who built it is moving to Portugal so couldn’t take it with him.
    I’m just starting out but the y axis jumps in some areas and doesn’t run smoothly.
    Z and X seem ok.
    Any advice or ideas how to get it running nice a smooth.

    Glad to hear you got it sorted conehead.

    I think mine *might* be sorted. To be honest, I have no idea what it was. I did a fairly long cut yesterday and it didn’t fault once.

    I think the problem may actually have been blunt cheap end mills. I used the 1/4” 2 flute solid carbide (uncoated) one from ooznest yesterday and it cut fine. All my failed cuts were using cheap crap 4 flute end mills off eBay. Lesson learned!

    Tonight I will up the feed speed and depths and see what happens.

    Overall what you can try:
    Check eccentric spacers, check wiring, check pulley grub screws

    Hey! Hard to pinpoint the exact issue, but will most likely be the pulley slipping on the motor shaft or the wheels being to tight on the extrusion. Try loosening the eccentric spacers, and see if it still shows the same issue?

    Hi again
    Tried loosening eccentric spacers, it still does it.
    Pulley isn’t slipping.
    The whole gantry that travels up and down the rails doesn’t look square.
    The wheels don’t seem to run true along the top of the exrptrusion.
    How might I square this up?
    Do I have to undo the belt square up and then reset the belt?
    It is still jarring as it travels ap and down the y axis.
    Getting frustrated now.

    Hi @Spider1967 can you please snap a quick picture of the gantry and what the setup looks like. It was not built by you so there may be something not built proly that may be causing this issue.

    Will do
    Having watched it moving it is bumping teeth on the belt when moving in y axis.
    I think this is the jumping I’m seeing as it jumps a tooth.
    It is using gt2 belts.
    What might be causing this?
    And how might I stop it happening?

    Maybe need to tighten your belts on each end a bit more to ensure the belt is locked into the pulley. Also make sure with the (power off) that axis can be moved by hand with out the belt running off the pulley due to misalignment. If it is not lined up you will need to readjust where you pulley sit on the motor shaft to ensure a good alignment for the belt to fall into.

    Do keep in mind that you are going to have an awful lot of weight there, and on a 1500mm X axis, you could be giving yourself problems with it twisting. :banghead: If you haven't yet, you will need to beef up the axis. If you are only going to cut wood, why do you need a spindle so powerful? :rolleyes:

    Hi Spider, It sounds like something I've seen before where someone had belts from one supplier and pulleys from another and they didn't quite mesh properly.
    It's hard to tell unfortunately, you would have to remove a pulley and hand wrap some belt tightly around it and make sure it's meshing well :) there are a bunch of different belts and pulleys.

    Hi again
    I’ve tried all sorts
    I’ve checked wheel alignment and pushed the axis up and down by hand and it runs very smoothly.
    When under control of laptop and being jogged it jumps teeth.
    One end is much worse that the other.
    I’ve tried resetting belt tension but it is hard to know if I’ve got it right or not. Tension seems similar to the better side but it still jumps teeth.
    What should I try now?
    New belt perhaps?
    It seems to mesh well when just stood still and belt on x axis which look indentical is fine.
    Any help or advice would be welcome what to try next?

    Ok, so it's only happening on one of the Y sides, take that belt off, maybe it is damaged.

    Would it run with just one belt fitted just to check operation?
    Is this good idea or not?
    I’ll try replacing belt today.
    Would trying to double belt be a good idea?
    Would I need to adjust eccentric spacers to accommodate double belting?

    Hi Spider, Dual belts helps reduce (almost eliminate) belt stretch and tension issues.
    Eccentrics should stay the same when belting is done correctly. Lower belt needs to be glued or double sided taped down with about 0.5mm of rise to get the mesh with the upper belt correct.
    Some people use ~0.5mm thick high quality double sided tape for this, some people use glue and a spacer, I used 0.5mm x 5mm carbon fiber pulltruded strips for a spacer with rc-tire type ca glue (Actually just rubber toughened CA glue). I'm very happy with it.

    Can you run with one belt? I wouldn't, If the belt is damaged you should be able to see the damage, unless it's just stretched from too much tension, would be hard to see.

    Would converting to GT3 belts be a good idea?
    I guess I can use gt3 on y and just reset parameter to suit gt3 belts.
    Will try a new belt and see what happens, I do have some spare gt2 belts.

    If I was to double belt gt3 does it still need 0.5 tape to get spacing right?

    Yes, I don’t know if anybody has dual belted GT2.

    @Spider1967 I think you need to change to GT3 belt all round. GT2 is an awfully small profile for a machine like this, and in my opinion would be more worthwhile than double belt GT2

    I’ve ordered some gt2 belt and a gt3 kit with belt and pulleys
    Planning on using gt3 on y axis for starters to get it working correctly and then might change x axis too

    This is where we are now!
    GT3 system arrived.
    I fitted new pulleys and single belts to the y axis on both sides.
    After getting a decent tension and pushing axis up and down by hand which felt pretty smooth I connected up laptop and started jogging it in y axis.
    One side is fine which was the good side before the other is still juddering and stuttering.
    Belts are not jumping teeth.
    Getting pretty miffed off. I haven’t been able to make one cut with it yet.
    Any ideas?
    Anyone near to Chesterfield in Derbyshire in UK with experience of these machines who could help me?

    That’s a bumber Spider, let’s figure this out, have you tried swapping steppers or drivers from one side to the other?
