I am trying to cut an order for a customer and my right Y axis keeps locking up and stops moving during the cut it even did it while trying to get the router positioned for a cut after realigning everything. Is their a tech support line I can call I need to get some immediate help as I need to ship this order today THere is some what i call wobble sounding noise and a kind of whining as it is moving....there seems to be some extra play in the screw when I try and move it with my hand but not sure wht to try and adjust at this point
Does the Fault LED light up? docs:blackbox-x32:currentadjustment [OpenBuilds Documentation] or does the lockup feel mechanical (Binding)? - check leadscrew, nutblocks, wheel adjustments) or is your Acceleration/Max Rate set too high? (Did you change the defaults we provided in the machine profile?) or could be wiring: docs:blackbox-x32:faq-identify-motor-coils [OpenBuilds Documentation] where one of the 4 wires loses contact
If you make a video of the stall we can see if we see/hear anything to give you more clues Tight is technically wrong. Just touching is correct. Too tight will damage wheels and cause binding:
ok i will adjust the wheels Is the blue light on the controller box supposed to go off when you turn the power off? Mine stayed on
Also when I get towards the back of the y axis it has more issues with binding and when I try to manually move the screw to line it up it is a bit hard to move and feels like maybe something is bent....hard to describe
Means, you gotta poke around there - you' re the only person at the machine - only one that can look and feel and inspect. You may need to take some things apart for a better view / feel. Feel where it gets stuck. Listen where weird noises come from. You being there, can check for damage to the thrust bearings, or see if the leadscrew is bent, ot check whether you forgot some spacers during assembly.
It doesn't stall in this video But the leadscrew sounds dry - spray some Dry/PTFE lubricant (Don't use oil it will degrade the Delrin nutblock) The leadscrew might be slightly bent by the whipping we can see, no need to immediately replace, but dial down Max Rate in Grbl Settings for Y to about 70% of current values
Can you please give me instructions on dialing down the Y value? Thanks Peter….is this something I just go into the main settings and change ? I am not familiar with any coding if that is what it takes. I am away from my computer and machine until Thursday unfortunately as I had to take off rather quickly. I did manage to get what I needed cut by changing the workspace direction and limiting the amount of movement on the y axis but that won’t work past today
CONTROL > Grbl Settings tab > Scroll down to $111 Max Rate for the Y axis. Change value. Save and Reset when prompted Grbl v1.1 Configuration
This video was after about 5 passes back and forth after spraying it…what you think? Still sounds funny especially on the backend but it hasn’t locked up yet Should the screw be kind of wobbling up and down? Seems somewhat logical since it is so long and the point of contact with the x axis would be the stiffest point but I have no idea what I should be seeing
Actually looks and sounds "good"! Have seen far worse! Your whipping is not excessive, squeeking noises are gone, looks relatively smooth (will get better over time - nutblocks take a couple runs to bed-in) Might have a bit of leadscew bend on the end there but I don't think its bad enough to warrant a new leadscrew. That dust hose getting squashed in the back there might someday cause a bind-up , consider adding a Swing Arm or it might cause EMI docs:blackbox-x32:faq-emi [OpenBuilds Documentation] (Not a shielded/earthed hose - will get quite charged with static electricity from the particles it sucks in rubbing on the inside - when it discharges to nearby frame/wiring it causes EMI symptoms) - earthing it should be something you consider doing
Thanks Peter The vacuum hose actually does go over the top as I have a poor man swing arm if you will where I attached a small rope to a hook and run the hose through it. I had just been vacuuming the floor and disconnected the vacuum to empty it so I tossed the hose up on the table
I do have one other symptom I will video and post separately on the z axis. Soon i hope. Have so many things going on at the moment
