    Good morning.
I searched for an answer to this question, but didn't find anything exactly on point.

Is there any problem equipping a LEAD machine with an air-cooled spindle, 2.2kw, that comes with an ER20 collet? Specifically, if I run larger bits, say 1/2 inch shank. Would that put any unacceptable stress on the LEAD build (as opposed to staying with the Router11 and smaller 1/4 inch shank bits)?

    Thx, rink.

2.2Kw spindles and 1/2" bits are really meant for industrial machines - those machines have the strength, weight and rigidity etc to take the load. Home shop machines like we use here are not designed for that. Yes, some people have those huge heavy spindles on their Leads, workbee etc but it's something I would never consider. If something goes badly wrong, the spindle won't give up but the machine may end up all over the shop. A bit like putting a formula 1 engine in a golf buggy. It's your choice however.

i dont see it this pessimistic like "Christian James" - in case of problem up, press the emergency button, thats what it is for.

i think even my toaster has more watts:D

i will soon order a watercooled 2,2kw spindle too, to use it with my openbuilds workbee/lead machine
    my makita rt0700 has 1,8kg
the new 2,2kw spindle will have 1,86kg so there should not be any weight problem
the only thing i am concearned is, that openbuilds doesnt support "M6 tool changes" so i might need to switch to some thing else to make an automatictoolchanger(atc) work

i'm running my makita with er11, or bigger tools with 8mm original collet, no problem
